What this is

EasyWordCounter is a word counter that opens straight into an editor, plus 16 focused tools around it — counters, readability and keyword analysis, text cleaners and converters, and calculators that turn words into pages and minutes.

It exists because most word counters are a form you submit. This one counts as you type, keeps your draft between visits, and tells you things worth knowing about the writing rather than just its length: how long it takes to read aloud, which words you lean on, how easily it reads.

Why nothing is uploaded

Every count, reading level, keyword figure and score on this site is calculated by JavaScript running on your own device. There is no upload endpoint for your text to be sent to, because the analysis does not involve a server at all.

That is not a policy we could quietly change — it is how the site is built. People paste unfinished, confidential and sometimes private writing into a word counter: a cover letter, a legal complaint, a school essay, an unannounced product. A tool that counts words has no reason to see any of it.

Drafts are saved to your browser's own storage so a refresh does not lose your work. They stay on your device, and Private mode switches saving off entirely. Theprivacy policy sets out the detail, including what advertising does collect.

How it is paid for

Advertising. That is what keeps every tool free, unmetered and account-free. We would rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise.

It does shape one decision: ads never sit inside the editor, in its toolbar, or beside the Copy, Clear and Download controls, because an ad placed where a button belongs is how people end up clicking things they did not mean to. They go below the tool and between sections of the explanatory content.

How the numbers are worked out

Different software counts differently, so every tool documents its own rules rather than asking you to take the figure on trust. A word is a space-separated token containing a letter or number, which means “state-of-the-art” and “don't” each count once. Sentences end at a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark, with decimals, initials and abbreviations like “Dr.” excluded. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line.

Reading time, speaking time, page counts and reading levels are estimates built from published averages, and each page says which average it used and lets you change it. They are useful for planning. They are not measurements of how good the writing is.

Built to stay fast

The site is a static build served from a CDN, with a few kilobytes of JavaScript for the parts that need to be interactive. There is no framework loading in the background and no tracking script deciding what to do before the page appears. A word counter should be usable before you have finished deciding you wanted one.
