Small Text Generator

Type your text to get tiny superscript letters or small caps, ready to copy and paste into a bio, a username or a message.

Type above to see your own text in every style.

These are symbols, not fonts. Screen readers may skip them or read them out letter by letter, and search can miss them, so keep them out of anything important. Why?

Runs in your browser. Your text is never uploaded.

How it works

There is no “small” setting in plain text, but Unicode includes small letters that were made for other jobs. Superscript letters come from phonetics, where they mark sounds such as a puff of air, and the superscript digits come from maths. Small capitals also come from phonetics. The generator swaps each of your letters for its small version.

These are Unicode symbols, not fonts

Nothing on this page changes a font. Each style swaps your letters for different characters that happen to look like styled letters: 𝐁 is “mathematical bold capital B”, a separate character from B, made so that equations can tell different kinds of variable apart. That is why the text keeps its style when you paste it somewhere that has no formatting, such as a social media bio.

It also has real costs, and it is fairer to say so:

  • Screen readers may not read it. Some skip the characters altogether, and others announce each one, such as “mathematical bold capital B”, so a short phrase becomes a long string of symbol names. Upside-down and enclosed letters are often read as nonsense.
  • Search may not find it. A search for “sale” will not always match 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞, so styled names and keywords can be harder to find on the platforms that use them.
  • Some devices show boxes. Older phones and some fonts lack these characters and show an empty box or a question mark instead.

So use it for decoration, not information: a word or two of emphasis, a name, a heading in a bio. Never style a whole post, a link, a price, a date or anything a reader must understand. Where real formatting is available, such as in a document, an email or a web page, use the bold and italic buttons instead. They look the same and work for everyone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between tiny text and small caps?
Tiny text uses superscript letters, which sit high and small like the 2 in x². Small caps are capital letters drawn at the height of small letters, so they sit on the line. Tiny text is smaller; small caps are easier to read.
Why is the letter q not tiny?
Unicode has no superscript q. The superscript letters were added for phonetics, and nobody needed a small q there. It is left as a normal q rather than swapped for a poor match.
Why do small caps leave capital letters alone?
That is how small caps work in print: capitals stay full height, and the small letters become small capitals. Type everything in lowercase if you want every letter the same size.
Can I make text smaller in my bio or username?
Yes. Copy the tiny or small caps version and paste it in. The app sees ordinary characters, so the size comes with them. Check it on a phone: a few fonts lack some small letters and show boxes.
